Design and development of ferrocene derivatives active against SARS-CoV-2
PIMIT, in collaboration with the Institute of Chemistry of Rennes, is working on the development of antiviral compounds focusing on the synthesis, evaluation, and mechanism of action of various chemical analogs.
The project involves creating new molecules by replacing the ferrocene core with heteroaromatic compounds or other metallocenes. We also explore the separation of enantiomers to assess their individual efficacy. The synthesized molecules undergo in vitro cytotoxicity tests and antiviral evaluations against SARS-CoV-2. In vivo studies on animal models, such as Drosophila, are also planned for the most promising molecules.
