The PIMIT lab is seeking a Science Communication and Outreach Officer (Research Engineer) to promote a research program in eco-epidemiology focusing on bats. The program aims to analyze the influence of urbanization on the health of bat populations in La Réunion and the cascading consequences for the risk of human exposure to potentially zoonotic viruses. It is based on a One Health approach, which simultaneously addresses environmental, animal, and human health.

The selected candidate will be responsible for developing the project's communication tools and ensuring its visibility. She.he will design and implement the overall communication strategy, both global and digital, around the project. These activities include developing materials and organizing events to promote the project and its outcomes to various target audiences. The scientific domains linked to the project are multidisciplinary: Ecology/Environment, Biodiversity/Conservation, Human-Wildlife Coexistence, Epidemiology, Human Health, Zoonotic Risks, and the OneHealth approach.

Start date : April 1, 2025.
Contract duration : 30 months (12 months, renewable for an additional 18 months).

Under the supervision of Muriel DIETRICH (IRD Research Scientist, UMR PIMIT), the project’s scientific coordinator, the candidate’s responsibilities will include :
-- Proposing and implementing a digital strategy to promote the project and its outcomes.
-- Preparing and coordinating the creation and dissemination of text or visual communication materials tailored to different audiences (general public, scientific community, local stakeholders) and communication channels (website, social media, press).
-- Developing educational materials based on scientific sources for project communication and fieldwork activities.
-- Managing communication projects with external providers: drafting specifications, budgeting, coordination, financial, legal, and logistical follow-up, reporting, and evaluation. Ensuring quality and timely delivery of subcontracted work.
-- Contributing to writing and publishing internal and external, institutional, or scientific news items online.
-- Leading, organizing, and participating in awareness and information events and workshops (public events, scientific conferences, restitution meetings).

 Candidate Profile We Are Seeking
We are looking for a creative and proactive candidate with a Master's degree in Information and Communication Sciences/Scientific Mediation. The candidate should have prior experience in managing scientific projects and an interest in ecology, environment, epidemiology, and/or human health topics.

Required skills :
-- Creativity, initiative, and ability to innovate and propose new ideas.
-- Strong writing skills, particularly in scientific outreach and mediation (flawless spelling). Proficiency in French (both spoken and written) is essential. 
-- Proficiency in graphic design, website development, and video editing tools.
-- Strong interpersonal skills, public speaking ability, and enthusiasm for facilitation.
-- Ability to work collaboratively and mobilize and lead groups.
